Let’s Do It Again…
A few days ago I saw Expendables 2. I have been waiting for this opening since they announced it shortly after the first Expendables came out. Let’s get some things straight to start off.
I know they’re all like 60 and in Chuck Norris’ case…72, but I don’t care. I love it, bring on a 3rd. I know you think it’s unrealistic for these “Geezers” to dominate as much as they do…Ok, well, you fight Stallone aka Rocky Balboa and see who wins. My money is on him still being able to whoop 97% of your asses. And my personal favorite comment, “Hey, those guns aren’t realistic”…You know what you’re wrong because the AA-12 Shootgun Sledgehammer IS a real thing, just ask this guy…so, don’t be so thick. Go see it for yourself and tell me they don’t still look like badasses.
I think I got my point across.
The Expendables 2 leaves off right where the first Expendables finished and most everyone is back. Not to mention a few new major additions like Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and Liam Hemsworth. Honestly, I was thinking midnight showing for this, but my buddy backed out, I had a 3 day Country concert on Expendables 2’s opening weekend…AND I had a sore throat for like a MONTH and a half…Things just didn’t work out…I’m sorry Sly. I got to it as soon as I could though, and Independence, OR ended up being the place for me. Independence is a real city…I promise. They even have a pretty nice theater. Prestige Theaters. I hadn’t heard of it before, but it turned out to great. Unfortunately, I had just eaten before I showed up so I didn’t get to enjoy a bag of popcorn and review that, but trust me, I thought about forcing one down, but bailed on the idea after standing in the lobby for 5 minutes thinking about it. Oh well, next time.
RottenTomatoes even gave #2 a better rating than the first one. Now, I do have to say that I didn’t think it was better than the first one, it was good, just not AS good. Just another reason to go by the Nic D. Movie Scale instead of RottenTomatoes. Anyways, Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) and Lee Christmas (Jason Statham) are back in the lead, trying to fix all the problems they stirred up in the first movie. You see, Ross didn’t do the exact job that Church (Bruce Willis…yeah Bruce Willis) wanted him to…so he OWES him one. The Expendables take on the task and kick just just as much ass as they did in the first movie. With the above talked about additions to the team, you will not be disappointed if you’re looking for an all out, beer drinkin’, cigar smokin’, bad guy-ass kickin’ movie…It’s full of violence and full of 60 year old men tossing out one liners out from the 1970’s – Present. It get’s my ass hairs growin’ just thinkin’ about it.
I built this movie up, I sent out reminders to friends, I made my dad watch the first one…I was ready. I knew what I was gonna get, and my boys didn’t let me down. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, If you’re lookin’ for straight testosterone filled flick…this one is for you! Enjoy and remember: “We are the shadows and the smoke, we rise. We are the ghosts that hide in the night.”
