Live and Die On This Day
The Grey begins simply enough, with some oil rig roughnecks catching a plane ride home after a season of hard work in the middle of nowhere. Then, out of nowhere, *Spoiler alert* there is a plane crash; an awesome, insane plane crash. The build up, the sounds effects, the back and forth exchanges, all of it…just awesome! This is followed by the survivors being thrown into a snowy wasteland full of giant man eating wolves.
It’s been a while since I’ve been in a movie with this much intensity. A long while. The entire movie I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the next scene. Being in a movie theater and being blown away with cinematic excellence like that is a rush. Not a lot of things are better than that! (Disclaimer: Will not try bungee jumping). There were several times in this movie where I looked to my buddy like, holy shit, did that just happen? The best scenes left the audience in legitimate awe; I mean “unable to talk or process coherent thoughts” type awe…that good. Director Joe Carnahan (The A-Team, Smoking Aces) nailed it with this one. Plus having Liam Neeson in your corner never hurts, that guy is intense! Hopefully, it gets more love than the 19.6 it opened with.
I highly suggest this movie!
