I braved the 70 degree weather here in Los Angeles and went to see Chronicle last weekend. I hate crowds, so I was a little hesitant to go on opening weekend, but when I looked over the movie times I noticed an 11AM showing. Who’s going to go to that early of a show, right? ME!
In retrospect, I think I must have missed a few things in the previews about this movie. It was nothing like I thought it was going to be. It started with a kid going through some tough times; Mom’s sick, Dad’s a drunk…not a lot of friends. Then out of nowhere, it was violently shoved into craziness. A couple kids, including the main character and his cousin, stumble upon a hole in the ground. After a little debate (and let’s face it, whenever there’s an unknown hole in the ground there needs to be some debate), they follow it to some kind of, I’m guessing, extra terrestrial power source. Before you know it they are flying around and moving shit with their minds. The movie was kind of all over the place after that, and while I won’t ruin the ending for you, I’m sure you won’t guess it.
I’ll say this, I was entertained, but I just don’t get the 85% rockin’ on Rotten Tomatoes right now. It just didn’t hit me as being that great of a movie. If you’re looking for something to do this weekend and have some down time, you might check this one out.
Or don’t. Either way.
