Box Office Top 10: Rise of the R-Rated Comedies

Box Office Top 10: Rise of the R-Rated Comedies

With Harry Potter looming on the horizon, Transformers 3 managed one more weekend victory before it gets kicked out of IMAX screens across the country.  Unlike Transformers 2, which virtually fell off a cliff after its opening weekend, Dark of the Moon managed a more respectable -54% drop.  Both 2 and 3 were pretty roundly rejected by critics, but, unlike 2, Transformers 3 is getting good audience reviews from those who’ve seen it.  Also it has 3D, which certainly helps the experience with a movie like this.

Horrible Bosses continued the Summer 2011 trend of successful comedies featuring a lot of cringe-worthy (but laugh out loud funny) humor (along with Bridesmaids, Hangover 2, and Bad Teacher).  This movie is currently at 73% Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and has great audience reviews as well, so it should continue its success over the next few weeks.

The Zookeeper also came out this weekend, and thankfully they aired approximately 18,437 commercials during the NBA Finals so I wouldn’t forget.
